The notification system alerts you when events occur in your courses such as when items need grading, when new content and quizzes are made available, and when you have unread discussions and blogs. Notifications are generated automatically whenever their associated events occur. Brightspace can also send notifications of daily or weekly activity to your email. You can not change your default email or add an external email to receive notifications.

Notification Types
These are the types of event notifications that Brightspace generates, if the notification is set to On in the Notifications area for email and/or SMS:
- Activity Feed – new comments from others on a post
- Activity Feed – new posts created by others
- Announcements – announcement updated
- Announcements – new announcement available
- Assignments – assignment feedback released
- Assignments – assignment feedback updated
- Assignments – assignment due date or end date is 2 days away
- Assignments – publish all feedback completion
- Content – content item created
- Content – content item updated
- Content – content overview updated
- Content Service – feedback for content service uploads
- Discussions – mentioned in a discussion post or thread
- Discussions – new post in a forum, topic, or thread that I subscribed to in instant notifications
- ePortfolio – feedback added to subscribed items
- ePortfolio – feedback added to my items
- ePortfolio – another user has subscribed to your updates
- Grades – grade item released
- Grades – grade item updated
- Quizzes – quiz due date or end date is 2 days away
