Brightspace allows instructors to retract evaluations for specific assignments if they require updates or were published to the learners in error. As a first step, if an instructor would like control over when grades and feedback are released to the learner, they can control this in the assignment settings. Refer to the Create an Assignment – Manage Special Access guide for assistance.

Instructions

  1. Select Activities on the Navbar and select the Assignments from the dropdown menu.
  1. Select the corresponding Assignment.
  1. Click the Publish All button to publish grades and feedback to all learners regardless of an assignment submission. Brightspace will prompt the instructor with a warning pop-up if there are assignments that have not yet been evaluated.
  1. All submissions will be listed as “Draft Saved” until it is published. When selecting Publish All, a pop-up at the bottom will show that the action is currently in progress. Notice that Retract All is currently grayed out.
  1. Once all evaluations have been published, the status will change to “Published” and Publish All will gray out. If the status does not change to “Published” automatically, refresh the page.

Note: For learners who did not submit an assignment for evaluation, Publish All will still trigger a notification to the learner that feedback is available. Upon logging into Brightspace, they will not see grades or feedback, but instead will see that a submission was not made.

  1. To retract grades and feedback, click Retract All. The pop-up at the bottom will show the action in progress.
  1. Once the action is complete, the status of the evaluation will change to “Draft Saved” and will be removed from the learner view. Publish All will also become available again for the instructor to republish evaluations to learners whenever they are ready.
