There are three common reasons why students might not see a course they are registered for in Brightspace:

(1) Instructors must “unlock” or make courses available to their students.

While some professors make their courses available to students before the start date, some will leave theirs locked/unavailable while they work on getting the course ready. Many faculty do not make the course available until the first week or first meeting date of class.

You can email them directly to inquire when your classes will be made available. In case they need help to unlock/open a course, instructions can be found here: Make a Course Available to Students

(2) Students may have to wait up to 24 hours after registering before seeing the class in Brightspace.

Please allow anywhere from about 4 to 24 hours before a course you have just registered for appears in Brightspace. Enrollments are not dynamic; rather, they are updated at various intervals throughout the day.

(3) Students who drop a course they were officially registered for cannot be manually added back.

You must register for the course in order to regain access. This happens to students who were manually added to courses via Brightspace without officially registering, or if they were added as a teaching assistant to a class they then officially register for as a student.

If these scenarios do not apply to you, please review the Brightspace Troubleshooting Guide, contact Brightspace@usc.edu or call (213) 740-5555, option 1. Be sure to include your name, USC ID, and the name of the missing class.
